Senegal political analysts critique fiscal deficit and Prime Minister's speech

Political analyst Hamidou Anne has raised concerns regarding Senegal’s fiscal situation, alleging a deficit of 5,200 billion FCFA. He noted that the Diomaye-Sonko administration has contracted 16,000 billion FCFA over three years, with financing needs for 2026 estimated at 6,075 billion FCFA. Anne advocated for a return to budgetary rigor, the restoration of trust with financial partners, and increased openness to foreign investors to support industrialization and job creation.

Separately, analyst Hamidou Hann criticized Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô’s recent General Policy Statement delivered to the National Assembly. Hann argued that the Prime Minister’s rhetoric regarding the country’s economic decline and loss of credibility was inappropriate for the office. He contended that rather than providing a roadmap for transformation or a crisis exit strategy, the speech functioned primarily as a report on existing difficulties, failing to offer a vision for improving the daily lives of Senegalese citizens.
