Senegal political debate intensifies over economic management
Senegal is experiencing intense media debate regarding the economic management and political conduct of the current administration led by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and the Pastef coalition.
Critics, including commentator Cheikh Bara Ndiaye, have accused the President and Finance Minister Cheikh Diba of compromising national interests. In response, commentator Ahmed Ndoye has defended the executive's early performance, particularly as the Ministry of Finance navigates budget negotiations with international partners and audits inherited accounts.
Further criticism has been directed at Ousmane Sonko, the former Prime Minister and current President of the National Assembly. Commentator Badara Gadiaga has questioned Sonko's economic statements, suggesting they were driven by electoral interests rather than national stability. Gadiaga also criticized past expenditures during Sonko's tenure as Prime Minister, specifically citing the purchase of luxury vehicles, and challenged his current legislative initiatives.
