Senegal political movement splits between Faye and Sonko

The political landscape in Senegal is undergoing a significant realignment as the movement that brought Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko to power fragments into two distinct poles. President Faye has established his own political anchor through Kiiraay Les Patriotes Républicains, while Pastef remains closely associated with Ousmane Sonko, the current President of the National Assembly.

This division has led to a series of administrative shifts and dismissals. High-ranking Pastef cadres and officials have faced removal from various government positions, including the leadership of the Port Autonome de Dakar. These departures have created three primary trajectories for affected officials: maintaining loyalty to Sonko, aligning with the presidential camp, or returning to their original professional lives.

The coexistence of these two factions, both originating from the same electoral momentum, is expected to influence upcoming local elections as they compete for influence and voter mobilization. This restructuring occurs as the administration faces increasing pressure to address economic issues such as the cost of living, purchasing power, and employment.
