Senegal political tension escalates amid accusations of constitutional coup

Opposition figures in Senegal allege that the ruling PAStef party is attempting a constitutional takeover, using its absolute majority in the National Assembly to push a fraudulent revision of the constitution and to undermine the president. Critics warn that such actions could further destabilise a country already facing serious economic, social and political challenges.

Separately, Cheikh Ibrahima Diallo, secretary‑general of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), called for national unity and a merit‑based system under President Diomaye. He urged the state to promote economic justice and to ensure that qualified citizens receive fair opportunities, presenting these measures as essential for sustainable growth and social cohesion.
