Senegal prepares for Gamou religious celebrations
Preparations are intensifying for the Gamou religious celebration in Senegal, marking the birth of the Prophet Mohamed. Religious leader Cheikh Ibrahima Diallo has issued several recommendations to pilgrims, urging them to prioritize spirituality and sobriety. He specifically advised followers to avoid posting images of meals on social media to maintain a spirit of devotion and called for appropriate attire during the festivities. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of road safety, urging drivers to exercise caution during the increased travel period.
In terms of logistics, Grands Trains du Sénégal (GTS) reported transporting nearly 10,000 pilgrims between Diamniadio and Tivaouane. Director General Moctar Ba stated that 26 trains were utilized for the journey to Tivaouane, with 20 trains mobilized for the return trip. The transport operation featured the implementation of digital ticketing, which officials described as a major innovation. GTS plans to continue serving railway cities and has promised free transport for supporters during the upcoming Youth Olympic Games.
