Senegal accelerates preparations for Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games
Senegal is accelerating preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG), the first Olympic event to be hosted on the African continent. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye recently inaugurated the Olympic Village and the equestrian center in Diamniadio, while also calling for the completion of local infrastructure and urban beautification projects in host areas.
To ensure environmental safety and sanitation, the government has established a Task Force to manage risks related to flooding and waste management, particularly around competition sites and transport corridors. The initiative focuses on proactive measures rather than emergency response.
Key milestones include the launch of the ‘Dundal JOJ’ countdown program and the arrival of the Olympic flame, which is expected in Senegal on September 12, following its lighting in Athens. The games are scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 13, 2026.
