Senegal President Faye Announces New 30‑Minister Cabinet

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has unveiled a new Senegalese government of 30 ministers, named by Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo. Analysts note that the coalition party Pastef, which helped bring Faye to power, is largely absent from the cabinet, though a few of its figures—such as Yankoba Diémé (Defence), Ibrahima Sy (Health) and Moussa Bala Fofana (Urban Planning)—have secured ministries.

Coalition coordinator Aminata "Mimi" Touré defended the appointment, citing the president’s democratic mandate and constitutional authority to form the cabinet. She urged stability, warning against partisan infighting and calling for institutions to work efficiently to address employment, cost‑of‑living, health, education and economic development concerns.

The new cabinet, dominated by technocrats and close allies of the president, signals an increasing political distance between President Faye and former ally Ousmane Sonko, now head of the National Assembly, and raises questions about the cohesion of the governing coalition.
