Senegal President Bassirou Diomaye Faye urges judicial independence at magistrates' graduation
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye addressed the graduation ceremony of the 2024‑2026 promotion of Senegal’s Centre de Formation judiciaire, speaking to 36 new magistrates. He emphasized that an independent judiciary is a “pillar intangible of the Republic” and a “shield of the weak against the powerful”, urging judges to obey only the law and their conscience.
Faye highlighted the need for continued modernization, citing digital platforms such as e‑Justice, e‑Service and a unified state portal, and instructed the Minister of Justice to advance reforms that improve access and efficiency. He praised the promotion’s patron, Dior Fall Sow, for her exemplary career and underscored that excellence in the judiciary knows no gender. The ceremony’s theme, “Independence of justice, foundation of the rule of law”, reflects the administration’s priority to strengthen the rule of law in Senegal.
