Senegal's president is at the centre of two parallel political controversies. Aldiouma Sow, deputy secretary general for elections, said the handling of the inherited public‑debt file shows internal divisions, noting that “les masques tombent” as differing approaches emerge. Sow contrasted an early “offensive” narrative about hidden debt with the president’s reportedly more cautious, technically‑driven stance aimed at preserving the country's credibility with partners.

Separately, civil‑society leaders are pressing the president for a clear position on a draft constitutional amendment referred to the National Assembly. Forum leader Babacar Ba urged transparent communication, asking whether the president approves, opposes, or wishes to amend the proposal, arguing that full disclosure is essential for democratic legitimacy.
