Senegal President Diomaye Faye Seeks IMF and French Backing to Avert Default

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye met with representatives of the International Monetary Fund, French President Emmanuel Macron and other donors in Nairobi during the Africa Forward summit organized by France on May 11‑12. The discussions focused on securing financial assistance and policy support to prevent Senegal from slipping into a sovereign debt default, which officials said could have regional repercussions.

The talks aimed to negotiate new financing arrangements and reforms that would restore market confidence and stabilize the country's public finances amid mounting fiscal pressures.
