Senegal Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo's new government prioritises rapid economic reforms

The new Senegalese government, led by Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo, was presented at its first cabinet meeting on 5 June 2026. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye called for a "government of work, actions, achievements and rapid results" and laid out an ambitious action plan targeting economic revival, public‑finance clean‑up, sovereign‑debt reduction, private‑sector development, agriculture, poverty alleviation and a modernised public administration. He also ordered a bi‑weekly ministerial council and thematic inter‑ministerial meetings to monitor reforms, and stressed a coordinated communication strategy.

Economist Abou Kane, professor at UCAD, praised Lo’s background – former BCEAO executive, ex‑secretary‑general of the government and former minister for Vision Senegal 2050 – calling him "an excellent profile". Kane highlighted the re‑organisation of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Planning and urged faster decision‑making, digitalisation of procedures and post‑implementation evaluation to restore investor confidence.
