Senegal receives Olympic Village and equestrian center for Dakar 2026

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has officially received the Diamniadio Olympic Village and the equestrian center in preparation for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG). The inspection included housing pavilions at the Amadou Mahtar Mbow University social campus, living spaces, and facilities adapted for persons with reduced mobility.

In addition to the residential areas, the President inspected the Gendarmerie equestrian center, which will host equestrian competitions. The President emphasized the importance of meeting international commitments and maintaining high standards to preserve Senegal's image. These facilities are intended to serve students, athletes, and local riders long after the games conclude.

The Dakar 2026 YOG, scheduled to run from October 31 to November 13, will be the first Olympic event held on the African continent. The games are expected to host approximately 2,700 athletes across roughly twenty disciplines, with events primarily located in Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly.
