Senegal sets August 25, 2026, for Gamou celebrations

The National Commission for Consultation on the Lunar Crescent (CONACOC) has announced that the Maouloud celebration, known as Gamou 2026, will take place in Senegal on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

In the religious center of Tivaouane, preparations are entering a new phase. The Cellule Zawiyah Tidiane reported that Burda recitation sessions are scheduled to begin this Friday. The theme for this year’s edition is ‘Together, think and act through the word of Unicity (Tawhid),’ focusing on the oneness of God while addressing social responsibilities, ethical behavior, and the pursuit of peace and justice.

The Gamou of Tivaouane is a major religious event that attracts large delegations of pilgrims from Senegal and abroad to commemorate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. The gathering serves as a significant moment for the transmission of Islamic teachings, prayer, and communal connection.
