Senegal to connect 8,000 primary schools via Starlink

Senegal plans to connect more than 8,000 primary schools to the internet using SpaceX’s Starlink satellite service ahead of the 2026-2027 school year. The initiative aims to reduce the digital divide between regions and provide students and teachers in underserved areas with better access to online resources and digital teaching materials.

The project is part of a broader national effort toward universal connectivity, which includes a program to provide free internet access to one million Senegalese residents. Education Minister Moustapha Guirassy has emphasized the importance of this connectivity for integrating digital platforms and potentially incorporating AI into the learning process across Africa.
