Senegal to lead UEMOA in migrant remittances for 2025

Senegal is projected to lead the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) region in migrant financial remittances in 2025. According to a report from the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Senegal is expected to receive 2,522 billion FCfa, significantly outpacing Côte d’Ivoire, which is projected at 1,060 billion FCfa.

Currently, approximately 55% of the diaspora's savings are transferred to Senegal, totaling 1,982 billion FCfa, with 81% of these flows moving through formal channels. A significant portion, estimated at 75%, is directed toward immediate household consumption. The Senegalese government aims to capture a larger share of the 45% of diaspora savings currently held in host countries, which amounted to 1,545 billion FCfa in 2024.

Projections suggest that total diaspora savings could reach 7,148 billion FCfa by 2034. While productive transfers are expected to reach 975 billion FCfa under current conditions, experts suggest that a proactive mobilization strategy could increase these productive transfers by up to 1,218 billion FCfa.
