Senegal unveils Masterplan 2025–2034 for economic sovereignty
Senegal has introduced its Masterplan 2025–2034, the first operational phase of the 'Vision Senegal 2050' strategy. The plan aims to shift the nation toward economic sovereignty by reducing import dependency and increasing domestic value creation.
A primary focus is the agricultural sector, where the government seeks to reduce the food import deficit from approximately 500 billion FCFA to less than 100 billion FCFA. This will be achieved by increasing the local transformation rate of agricultural, fishery, and animal products from 20% to 60% through the establishment of agropoles.
The strategy also extends to natural resources, including gold, iron, gas, and hydrocarbons. Rather than relying solely on extraction, the plan intends to develop industrial ecosystems around these resources. Economist Fodé Samb, a specialist in international cooperation and sustainable development, has provided analysis regarding the government's general policy declarations and the implementation of these development goals.
