Senegal: Water shortages and school supply support in Kaolack and Bembou

In Kaolack, engineer Babacar Ndiogou has raised concerns regarding the persistent lack of water in local schools. Ndiogou has criticized proposals to install school-based boreholes as a solution, arguing that such measures must not be implemented without rigorous sanitary guarantees to prevent bacteriological, chemical, and biological risks. He has called on communal authorities to suspend such projects and engage with Senau to ensure a reliable and sustainable supply of potable water, emphasizing that student health must not be compromised.

In the Bembou commune, the mining company BOYA SA has distributed 607 school kits to students in five villages: Gamba-Gamba, Kharakhéna, Dialadakhoto, Linguéya, and Bougouda. Through its 2026 Community Investment Program, the company allocated 3,134,960 FCFA to provide supplies including notebooks, pens, slates, and teaching materials. Local school directors noted that the initiative helps alleviate financial burdens for families and supports students in starting the academic year under better conditions.
