Senegal women's team targets World Cup berth at 2026 African Nations Cup
Ahead of the 2026 African Nations Cup for women in Morocco (25 July–16 August), Senegal's football authorities have set a historic goal for the Lionnes: reach the semi‑finals, which would secure the nation's first qualification for the FIFA Women's World Cup. The team received the national flag and encouragement from senior officials, including a message from the president of the republic, before departing for the tournament.
Coach Mame Moussa Cissé announced a 26‑player squad comprising three goalkeepers, seven defenders, eight midfielders and eight forwards. Captain Korka Falla and other experienced players lead the side as they prepare to compete in Group A, hoping to achieve the unprecedented World Cup spot.
