Senegalese baker sentenced to 20 years for armed robbery in Touba

The criminal chamber of the High Court of Thiès sentenced baker C. Sall, known as “Khaugne”, to 20 years of imprisonment for an armed robbery in Touba. The crime, which took place in August 2023, involved Sall and three accomplices traveling from Dakar on motorcycles to target a merchant, C. Diop, who had just withdrawn 30.2 million FCFA. During the attack, Sall used a knife to restrain Diop while a companion seized the cash bag and fled. Video evidence shown in court identified Sall, and he admitted participation, confirming the group’s four‑person composition and the division of the loot.

Sall’s spiritual advisor, marabout A. Ndieguène, was also convicted for failing to report the crime and received a two‑year sentence, with six months of mandatory imprisonment. Both convictions were based on charges of criminal association, robbery with violence, weapon use and illegal use of transport.
