Senegalese media digital shift requires mindset change

Mamadou Diagne, president of the Convention des jeunes reporters du Sénégal (CJRS), has emphasized that digital transformation in the media sector requires a shift in mindset and management rather than just technological upgrades. Speaking at the Salon international des médias d’Afrique (SIMA) 2026, Diagne argued that investing in high-end hardware like smartphones or computers is insufficient if internal organizations, editorial lines, and revenue models remain analog.

He noted that the transition must involve all media roles, including technicians, editors, and graphic designers, to ensure the entire organizational architecture adapts to new technologies. Diagne also highlighted the need for media companies to diversify revenue streams through platform monetization, subscriptions, and partnerships with content creators to meet changing information consumption habits.
