Senegalese police seize one ton of subsidized fertilizer smuggled toward Guinea
Senegalese police in Kounkané intercepted a shipment of one ton of subsidized urea fertilizer attempting to be smuggled into Guinea. The seizure took place at the Kalifourou border post.
The shipment, consisting of 20 bags of 50 kg each, was being transported on a tricycle. Two individuals were apprehended during the operation. The suspects claimed they purchased the fertilizer on the black market in Linkéring for 13,000 CFA francs per unit, asserting the product was intended for rice fields in Wassi, Guinea.
Authorities noted that the fertilizer is typically provided to farmers in the Vélingara department by SODEFITEX. The seized goods and the tricycle have been transferred to the Vélingara Departmental Commerce Service for further investigation into the origin and legality of the transaction.
