Senegalese Soldiers Clash with Gambian Forces at Bullock Military Camp

Senegalese troops entered the historic Bullock Military Camp in Foni, The Gambia, and began demolishing about 200 metres of its perimeter fence, claiming the land belongs to Senegal. Gambian soldiers stationed at the camp observed the demolition without intervening. The incident left one Senegalese soldier injured and another missing.

Gambian lawmakers condemned the action, with Hon. Almamy Gibba accusing Senegal of challenging Gambian sovereignty and urging President Adama Barrow to seek a diplomatic resolution. Both governments later affirmed a commitment to deepen defence cooperation, pledging joint patrols and enhanced coordination to prevent further border incidents.

The clash adds to longstanding tension along the Gambia‑Senegal border, where security operations against armed groups in Casamance have occasionally spilled over, prompting calls for stronger bilateral security mechanisms.
