The coalition points out that the Ministry of Interior, which assured in March 2026 that the elections would meet legal deadlines, has missed several key milestones.

Key statutory deadlines include: the interior ministry must set the candidate bond by 20 August 2026; the list of candidates for departmental and municipal elections must be filed between 24 and 29 October 2026; and voters must be formally convened by 19 October 2026. An ordinary revision of the electoral rolls, required to begin on 1 February 2026, has not taken place, nor has any exceptional decree been issued to address the delay.

Under the electoral code, the latest permissible date for holding the elections is 17 January 2027. The FDR warns that any postponement beyond this deadline would lead to an illegal extension of local mandates and calls for immediate political consultation between the government and opposition forces to ensure the elections occur on time.
