Senegal's CNDH calls for human rights education to curb sports violence

The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) of Senegal has issued an alert regarding increasing violence within sporting movements. During a seminar in Dakar, CNDH President Amsatou Sow Sidibé emphasized that sporting passion does not justify death, injury, or the vandalism of property.

The initiative, held alongside the National Coordination Body for Holiday Activities (ONCAV) and the IMPACT platform, aims to establish a roadmap for a tripartite convention signed in September 2026. Supported by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the seminar focuses on transforming commitments regarding youth, sport, and citizenship into concrete actions.

Robert Kotchani, the OHCHR regional representative, advocated for better reporting mechanisms and support for victims of violence and gender-based discrimination in sports. As Senegal prepares for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, officials are looking to leverage sporting networks, such as the Navétanes championship, to promote social cohesion and inclusion.
