Senegal's National Assembly Begins Second Phase of Constitutional Reform

On 20 June 2026 the Conference of Presidents of Senegal’s National Assembly met in Dakar after receiving the President’s opinion on the constitutional amendment proposal on 19 June. The meeting officially opened the second phase of the revision process, in accordance with article 103 of the constitution and article 69 of the Assembly’s internal rules.

Committee work is scheduled for 24 June, followed by a plenary session to examine and vote on the draft on 29 June. The step is seen as pivotal for any major changes to Senegal’s institutional framework.

The process has been announced by Assembly President Ousmane Sonko and is expected to shape upcoming parliamentary debates.
