Senegal National Assembly convenes extraordinary session for legislative reforms and inquiries

The National Assembly of Senegal has convened an extraordinary session scheduled to begin on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM. The session, called by Assembly President Ousmane Sonko, features a dense legislative and investigative agenda.

Legislative priorities include drafting and reviewing the Labor Code, the Social Security Code, and a bill regarding the protection of critical information infrastructure and digital security. Additionally, lawmakers will consider a proposal to amend Article 37 of the Constitution and a bill regarding the legal regime for special credits.

A major component of the session is the creation of six parliamentary inquiry commissions. These commissions are tasked with investigating several sensitive areas of public management, including land management in maritime zones, the irregular sale of state-owned buildings to private individuals, and the use of Total Return Swap (TRS) financial mechanisms.

Further investigations will target tax exemption management, revenue abandonment, and fishing license renewals. One specific inquiry will probe the 'One student, one computer' program managed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, focusing on procurement irregularities involving an estimated 48 billion CFA francs since 2017.
