Port Autonome de Dakar Waly Diouf Bodian Doune Pathé Mbengue Senegal leadership change

Waly Diouf Bodian was removed from his post as Director General of the Port Autonome de Dakar on 16 July 2026. The government named Doune Pathé Mbengue, a senior tax and land inspector appointed by the Council of Ministers on 24 April 2024, to succeed him. Mbengue officially took office on 13 May 2024, following the dismissal of former director Mountaga Sy.

The change occurs amid heightened political tension in Senegal. Bodian, a longtime PASTEF activist linked to opposition leader Ousmane Sonko, was dismissed after refusing to leave his position without party consultation. Human‑rights advocate Alioune Tine criticised the politically driven appointment process, calling the role a “chaise éjectable” that jeopardises institutional stability and urging merit‑based, transparent selection for public‑sector leaders.
