Senegal's RTS removes international news editor from position
Alioune Badara Kane, the Editor-in-Chief of International News at Radiodiffusion Télévision Sénégalaise (RTS), has been removed from his position by Director General Pape Alé Niang. Following the decision, Kane was demoted from his departmental head role to the status of a simple agent.
Kane, who also serves as a union leader for the SYNPICS-SYNPAP inter-union, responded by labeling the Director General an ‘apprentice dictator.’ He stated that the move was an attempt to muzzle and intimidate him, asserting that while his functions have ended, his convictions remain unchanged. He vowed to continue denouncing management deficiencies and defending workers' rights.
In a related development, RTS staff have announced a general strike scheduled from October 31 to November 2, 2026, coinciding with the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.
