Senegal's Sangomar field hits record output as Gabon revives offshore oil push

Woodside Energy, holding an 82 % stake in Senegal’s Sangomar offshore field, reported production above 100,000 barrels per day, surpassing its original forecasts since the field entered commercial service in June 2024. The company has started engineering studies for a Phase 2 extension that would tie additional wells to the existing FPSO, aiming to prolong the field’s economic life.

Gabon announced a renewed offshore oil strategy ahead of African Energy Week 2026 in Cape Town (12‑16 Oct). The government highlighted deep‑water prospects, recent regulatory reforms, and a new cooperation agreement with Shell signed in June 2026, signalling an effort to attract international investors and boost local value creation in the sector.
