Senegal's SN HLM housing agency layoffs spark government mediation

Nine senior staff were dismissed from Senegal's public housing body, Société Nationale des Habitations à Loyer Modéré (SN HLM), triggering a dispute over the legality of the terminations. Public service minister Mamadou Lamine Dianté warned that a court loss could damage the government's image and said Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo would convene a mediation meeting with all parties.

The new director general, Pape Abdourahmane Dabo, justified the layoffs as necessary for financial and organisational restructuring, while former director Bassirou Kébé denied that recent recruitments were abusive and criticized the decision. Unions have called for Dabo’s removal, noting concerns about spending on employee‑family activities and the overall handling of the crisis.
