Senegal's Train Express Regional reaches 160 km/h in speed tests, resumes Dakar‑Diamniadio service

Dynamic speed trials on the new Diamniadio‑AIBD section of Senegal's Train Express Regional (TER) confirmed the line can operate at its design speed of 160 km/h. Tests progressed from 30 km/h on 27 July to the target speed on 30 July 2026, with no major technical issues reported. Engineer Abdoul Aziz Samb highlighted the successful verification of signalling, telecommunications and safety systems.

Following the successful trials, the TER reinstated commercial passenger service between Dakar and Diamniadio on 31 July 2026, operating a train every ten minutes. Test runs will continue on the Diamniadio‑AIBD stretch as final preparations for the full commercial launch of the extension to Blaise Diagne International Airport are completed. Authorities reminded the public to avoid railway embankments for safety.
