Senelec announces planned power outages in Dakar
Senelec has announced planned electricity interruptions and fluctuations in Dakar between October 3 and October 5, 2026. The disruptions are due to the transfer of the Bel Air substation to a new, advanced Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) unit.
This modernization project is being conducted with support from the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) to improve the reliability and security of the capital's electrical grid and to meet increasing energy demands. The technical intervention will require the temporary disconnection of certain works and will cause a transient reduction in the production capacity of the Karpowership plant.
While specific schedules and a detailed list of affected neighborhoods have not been released, residents in the vicinity of Bel Air are expected to be the most impacted. Senelec has advised customers to protect sensitive electronic devices during this period.
