Senelec chief Pape Toby Gaye targets energy sovereignty for Senegal

Pape Toby Gaye has led Senegal’s national electricity utility Senelec since 2024, after more than 25 years climbing the company’s ranks. He is described as a manager who knows the organisation from the ground up and combines operational performance with strategic planning.

Gaye says his actions are guided by a long‑term vision of energy sovereignty, security of supply and lower electricity costs. Under his leadership Senelec is accelerating the integration of domestically produced natural gas into the national energy mix, modernising infrastructure and expanding renewable sources. The aim is to cut reliance on imported fuels, improve reliability for households and businesses, and support Senegal’s broader economic development as outlined by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

The strategy also includes improving technical performance, efficiency and cost‑effectiveness, with the goal of delivering more affordable and dependable power to the Senegalese population.
