Senelec employees requisitioned ahead of planned strikes in Senegal
The Governor of the Dakar region has issued an official decree to requisition 22 Senelec employees to ensure the continuity of electricity services and the security of strategic installations. This measure comes in response to announced social movements and a general strike scheduled for October 21, 22, and 23, 2026.
Senelec management stated that all necessary measures have been taken to maintain the quality and continuity of public electricity supply. While the company expressed a commitment to social dialogue and listening to workers, it noted that it had not received formal strike notices from the union SUTELEC, having learned of the intentions through unofficial channels.
The requisition order relies on various legal frameworks, including the Constitution and the Labor Code, to maintain essential services during the potential work stoppage.
