Senigallia council urged to adopt ethical pigeon control method used in Jesi

A group of Senigallia residents, including shop owners and restaurateurs, have asked Mayor Olivetti and Environment Councilor Bucariche to consider an alternative to the city's current pigeon‑control measures. The citizens cite the approach trialled in nearby Jesi, where volunteers from the environmental NGO Legambiente installed "colombaie" – tower‑like structures that attract pigeons to nest and allow their eggs to be replaced with dummy ones, reducing births without harming the birds. They argue this method is more humane, cheaper to maintain than nets or traps, and protects historic monuments from pigeon droppings. The petition urges the municipal administration to evaluate this ethical solution instead of relying on fines, deterrents, or lethal methods.
