Senior academies in Portugal prepare for new academic year

Senior academies in Portugal are preparing for the upcoming academic year, focusing on promoting active aging and social integration for older populations.

In Viana do Castelo, the Academia Sénior of the Centro de Estudos Regionais (CER) expects over 100 enrollees for its September start. The program offers 14 diverse training areas and activities, including languages such as German and English, IT, photography, creative writing, ceramics, and physical activities like Pilates and healthy gymnastics. Armando Borlido, president of the CER, stated that the curriculum is adapted to participant interests to combat social isolation and improve quality of life.

Similarly, the Academia Sénior of CURPI in Campo Maior is preparing for an October start. The project, which primarily involves women over 60, emphasizes social interaction and active participation. Anselmina Caldeirão, president of CURPI, highlighted the energy and willingness of the students to engage in various community activities and institutional initiatives.
