Senior Citizens Day celebrated in Pasighat and Guwahati
Various organizations in India celebrated World Senior Citizens Day with events focused on combating loneliness and promoting the social value of the elderly.
In Pasighat, the NGO Ayi: Ke Ekum hosted a program at the IGJ Government Higher Secondary School Auditorium. The initiative aims to provide a platform for citizens over 70 to share experiences and overcome social isolation. The event included cultural performances, such as the traditional Ka:do Ponnung song, and emphasized the responsibility of society to ensure elders live with dignity.
In Guwahati, the Centre for Senior Citizens of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan held a celebration at its Ulubari premises. The event brought together students, community members, and distinguished guests to discuss the importance of keeping senior citizens actively engaged in community life. Speakers highlighted that aging should be viewed as a stage of life enriched by wisdom rather than a period of dependency.
