Senior dance competitions held in Pelarco and Toluca

Local communities in Chile and Mexico are hosting dance competitions to promote active aging and cultural traditions among seniors.

In Pelarco, Chile, Herminda Faundez and Jaime Mejías Meléndez were named the winners of the 2026 Communal Cueca Championship for Seniors. The pair will represent the commune at the XXVI Provincial Cueca Championship, titled ‘Luisa Riquelme Aravena’, which is scheduled to be hosted in Pelarco on August 20.

In Toluca, Mexico, the ‘Toluca se Pone en Ritmo’ contest has drawn 130 participating couples. The competition features various dance styles, including danzón, cumbia, rock and roll, and folklore. Participants are competing for cash prizes, with 75,000 pesos awarded to the first-place winners. The initiative aims to support the physical and emotional well-being of older adults through recreational activity.
