Senior entrepreneurship initiatives launch in Costa Rica and Spain
Various initiatives are launching to support entrepreneurship among older populations in Costa Rica and Spain.
In Costa Rica, the Asociación Gerontológica Costarricense (AGECO) has opened the second edition of its contest, ‘Fondo Impulsando mi Idea Productiva y Fortalecimiento de la Empresariedad Mayor’. Funded by the Sistema de Banca para el Desarrollo (SBD), the program offers non-reimbursable seed capital of up to ₡4 million per beneficiary. The contest targets entrepreneurs aged 45 and older who have existing businesses and seek to formalize or expand their operations. Approximately 25 people are expected to benefit from this round.
In Spain, the eighth edition of the ‘Premios +50 Emprende’ has commenced. Led by Savia—a project of Fundación Endesa and Fundación Máshumano—the awards aim to promote senior talent and combat age-related prejudices in the labor market. The current edition features a total prize pool of 33,000 euros, divided into General and Green Entrepreneurship categories. Registration is open until January 17, 2027, with Sevilla serving as a key location for project presentations.
