Hamas Police Chief Abdel‑Nasser Al‑Maqadma Killed in Israeli Airstrike in Gaza

An Israeli airstrike on Saturday hit the Sheikh Radwan area north of Gaza City, killing Brigadier‑General Abdel‑Nasser Al‑Maqadma, the head of the Hamas‑run police force in the northern Gaza Strip. The interior ministry, which administers the police, identified him as the governor of the north. In a separate strike, a Palestinian medic was killed in the Nuseirat refugee camp and a police officer who had been wounded by a previous airstrike died of his injuries. Israeli attacks also killed two civilians in a house in Khan Younis and a high‑school student who was bringing sweets to his family. Israel says it has killed dozens of Hamas police members in recent months, accusing many of belonging to Hamas’s armed wing. Hamas says the strikes aim to sow chaos and violate the U.S.‑brokered ceasefire that began in October 2025. The latest deaths raise the overall Gaza civilian toll since the ceasefire to more than 1,180, while four Israeli soldiers have been killed by militants in the same period. Regional mediators continue to push a U.S.‑backed plan to end the conflict, but little progress has been reported.
