Senior living and safety initiatives announced in Switzerland and Austria
Various initiatives in Switzerland and Austria are addressing the challenges of aging populations, focusing on housing, architecture, and safety.
In Zurich, Switzerland, the exhibition ‘Zuhause im Alter’ (Home in Old Age) will run from October 20 to November 8, 2026. The event explores how architecture and design can support different life stages and foster intergenerational living. The project includes research from students at the Bern University of Applied Sciences regarding movement-promoting architecture for the elderly.
In Tyrol, Austria, the state is hosting a senior forum titled ‘Sicherheit im eigenen Haushalt’ (Safety in One’s Own Household) on November 13, 2026, at Messe Innsbruck. The event aims to help seniors identify and avoid daily accident risks, such as trip hazards and mobility issues, to promote independent living. The forum will feature expert presentations on fall prevention and facilitate dialogue between different generations.
