Uruguay seniors launch radio program to champion aging and health services

Women participants of the "Abrazando la Vida" workshop at the Colegio y Liceo Sagrada Familia (SAFA) in San José de Mayo have started a weekly radio show on Principal FM. The program, aired Tuesdays and Thursdays at 15:30, highlights the dignity of older adults, challenges stereotypes about aging, and calls for a more comprehensive health approach, noting the scarcity of geriatric specialists in Uruguay's mutualist system. The presenters also discuss digital inclusion, sharing experiences of adapting to new technologies and urging younger generations to teach seniors without patronising them.

The initiative aims to give older citizens a public voice, promote inter‑generational dialogue, and advocate for policies that recognise the advantages of an ageing population.
