Senior World Championships wrestling results in Astana

The 2026 Senior World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, have seen a challenging run for the United States Greco-Roman wrestling program. Benji Peak, competing at 72 kg, saw his repechage hopes end after Mingiian Goriaev of Russia failed to qualify for the finals, following Peak's loss in the round of 16.

Other U.S. Greco-Roman athletes faced early exits. Cohlton Schultz (130 kg) and Timothy Young (97 kg) both finished with 0-1 records, while Max Nowry lost his 55 kg repechage match against India’s Lalit. Otto Black (67 kg) was eliminated by Uzbekistan’s Aytjan Khalmakhanov via technical fall, and Beka Melelashvili (87 kg) was pinned by Croatia’s Ivan Huklek.

In addition to the U.S. team, several Nigerian wrestlers, including two-time NAIA National Champions Esther Kolawole and Christianah Ogunsanya, are participating in the championships representing Team Nigeria.
