Seniorcamp in Fredericia promotes active aging through sports
More than 100 seniors from across Denmark are gathering at the Fredericia Idrætscenter for the annual Seniorcamp, organized by the Danmarks Arbejder Idrætsforbund (DAI). The two-day event, held on August 19 and 20, features a variety of activities including walking football, pickleball, curling, table tennis, swimming, yoga, krolf, shooting, and gymnastics.
The camp aims to promote physical activity and social community to improve both longevity and quality of life for older adults. Organizers emphasize that movement within a strong community helps participants manage physical ailments and maintain mental well-being. This aligns with recommendations from the Danish Health Authority, which suggests that adults over 65 engage in at least 30 minutes of moderate to high-intensity physical activity daily, including exercises to maintain muscle strength, balance, and mobility.
