Seniors' Climate Witness caravan travels Canada to demand climate action

A group of senior citizens participating in the Seniors’ Climate Witness (SCW) caravan is traveling across Canada to demand federal action on climate change. The West Coast cohort, which launched from Victoria and met with environmentalist David Suzuki in Vancouver, recently stopped in Revelstoke while traveling toward Ottawa.

An East Coast caravan is also moving toward Parliament Hill from Nova Scotia. The group aims to meet with Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss the federal government’s role in mitigating climate impacts and to advocate for reversing plans for increased oil and liquid natural gas extraction. The activists cited the severe consequences of this summer’s wildfire season, including evacuations, smoke, and economic declines in tourism, as primary motivations for their journey.
