Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility to receive new film adaptation

A new cinematic adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1811 novel, ‘Sense and Sensibility’, is scheduled for release in late 2026. Directed by Georgia Oakley and written by Diana Reid, the film features a cast led by Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles, who portray the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne.

The story follows the Dashwood family as they face economic hardship following the death of their father, which results in their family estate passing to a male heir. The sisters must navigate social expectations and the search for stability in an era where marriage was often a primary means of financial security.

Other cast members include George MacKay, Caitríona Balfe, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum, and Fiona Shaw. This production arrives amidst a renewed interest in Austen’s works, following previous notable adaptations and upcoming projects such as a Netflix miniseries of ‘Pride and Prejudice’.
