Sense and Sensibility film adaptation set for October release

A new film adaptation of Jane Austen’s ‘Sense and Sensibility’ is scheduled for theatrical release on October 16. Directed by Georgia Oakley, the production stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Elinor Dashwood and Esmé Creed-Miles as Marianne Dashwood, with Caitríona Balfe portraying their mother, Mrs. Dashwood.

Oakley noted that the film emphasizes the central bond between the two sisters rather than traditional romantic pairings, describing their relationship as intense, messy, and tender. The filmmaker also expressed an intention to move away from idealized, fetishistic portrayals of Austen’s era, seeking a more realistic depiction of the period.

The upcoming release follows a long history of adaptations, including the well-known 1995 version. Other Austen-related projects are also expected soon, including a new ‘Pride and Prejudice’ on Netflix and ‘The Other Bennet Sister’ on BritBox.
