Sense Bank leadership suspended amid Ukrainian corruption probe
The Ukrainian government has suspended the leadership of state-owned Sense Bank following a corruption investigation. Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi announced the removal of Mykola Hladyshenko, the chairman of the bank’s supervisory board, and initiated proceedings to suspend the chairman of the management board.
The actions follow a probe by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), dubbed “Forrest Gump.” Investigators allege the existence of a criminal organization involving current and former lawmakers and senior presidential officials. The probe reportedly uncovered a scheme to launder approximately 150 million HR ($3.3 million) through Sense Bank to post bail for a suspect in a previous investigation.
Koretskyi emphasized that the facts disclosed by anti-corruption bodies require accountability, stating that “trust is a fundamental condition for the operation of a state financial institution.” Law enforcement officials have conducted investigative actions at the bank’s head office as the inquiry continues.
