Senzo Mchunu's home raided by police during ongoing investigation

Police officers executed a search-and-seizure warrant at the KwaZulu-Natal residence of suspended South African Police Minister Senzo Mchunu on Monday, September 21. During the operation, officers seized electronic devices, including cellphones with specific IMEI numbers, as part of an ongoing investigation into charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice.

Mchunu, who was placed on forced leave by President Cyril Ramaphosa following allegations of political interference and maladministration, maintained his innocence and cooperated with the search in the presence of his attorney. His spokesperson noted that this is the second time communication tools have been seized, alleging that the first set of devices was never returned.

The investigation is part of a broader inquiry into criminal infiltration and political influence within the South African Police Service (SAPS). The matter is currently being scrutinized by both a judicial Commission of Inquiry chaired by Justice Madlanga and a parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee.
