Seo Hun-tae wins South Korea’s first gold at Asian Para Games

Seo Hun-tae won the first gold medal for the South Korean delegation at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games. Competing in the mixed 10m air rifle standing (SH2) event at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Range, Seo recorded a total of 254.6 points, setting both a new Asian record and a tournament record.

Seo secured the victory by a margin of 1.0 point over Thailand’s Kunthong Wongsatong, who took silver. South Korea’s Park Seung-woo earned the bronze medal in the same event. Seo, who transitioned to shooting after years of competing in wheelchair table tennis and rugby following a spinal cord injury in 2008, noted that the achievement felt doubly rewarding as it was the first gold for his national team.

The South Korean shooting team also secured several other medals on the opening day, including silver and bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle (SH1) and a bronze in the women’s 10m air rifle (SH1).
